Jasprit Bumrah is one of the contenders to replace Virat Kohli as Test captain. However, he is not getting support. After Ravi Shastri, former bowling coach Bharat Arun has spoken against the idea of going ahead with Bumrah as team’s new leader in red-ball cricket.
While speaking to News9, Arun emphasized the importance of giving the role to one of the batters, as he can play more games without being rested.
He stated that the fast bowler doesn’t have the acumen to be helm of the affairs.
“I am in favour of a batter as he can play all the matches. Bumrah has the talent but there is a question mark on his availability, considering his bowling,” he said.
“Bumrah needs care and sufficient breaks to keep himself fit. So taking all this into account, I don’t think it is wise to appoint him as India’s new skipper.”
Bumrah was KL Rahul’s deputy in the second Test between India and South Africa. Virat Kohli was ruled out due to back spasm and the leadership role was handed to Rahul. The pacer was also given the vice-captaincy during the three-match ODI series against the Proteas.
