Irfan Pathan has lauded Shubman Gill for showing maturity in the second ODI against New Zealand despite scoring a double hundred in the previous game.
Gill scored an unbeaten 40 off 53 balls in India’s chase of 109 in Raipur on Saturday, January 21. The Indian bowlers had bowled the Kiwis for 108.
“It was good to see the commitment after scoring a double hundred. Young players like to go for big shots and show the style, but he didn’t go for glory strokes,” Irfan Pathan said on Star Sports.
The former all-rounder appreciated the opener for playing a controlled knock.
“He played normal cricket and tried to bat with full commitment. It was good that he forgot the double hundred,” he added.
Gill played a 208-run knock in India’s 12-run win in the first game in Hyderabad.
