Agarkar also opined on the presence of legacy cricketers in the team and how they can help and guide the young players.
BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar refused to confirm whether Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma would be a part of the 2027 World Cup. There have been speculations about the future of two-star batters after Shubman Gill was given the ODI captaincy.
Agarkar mentioned that Virat and Rohit will not be put to the test in every match they compete in the future. Both are part of the ODI squad for a three-match series against Australia.
“They are part of the team in Australia. They are big players, but it is not the time to talk about the individual cricketers. It is difficult to say anything as there are still two years left. There can be young players who will take the spot.
“Both are top performers, and they can’t be put to the test in every match. Once they play, we will assess their performance. It is about winning and not just runs. It is not like that if they score three centuries against Australia, they will play the World Cup. We will have to consider many things,” Agarkar told NDTV.
Agarkar also opined on the presence of legacy cricketers in the team and how they can help and guide the young players.
“They have created their own legacy. You want those players to perform. You have to give them respect. Some of the conversation with them is not revealed, but they are respectful figures,” he added.
