While Shastri said during his no-holds-barred interview that his job is not to butter everyone’s toast but to state facts without agenda, he never applied the same rule to batters.

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri gave a befitting reply to R Ashwin over the former’s praise of Kuldeep Yadav in 2018, when he said that the left-arm spinner would be India’s first choice in overseas conditions.

Ashwin revealed that he felt crushed by the then-head coach statement, and Shastri said yesterday that he doesn’t believe in buttering everyone’s toast.

Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt has now opined on the issue, insisting a player gets hurt when a head coach criticizes him (Ravi Shastri vs R Ashwin) in public.

“Ravi Shastri has said that his job is not to butter his players, and even if the players get hurt, he wants them to prove his statement wrong. Now, as a player, if someone from the team says such things about you, it does hurt a bit,” said Salman Butt.

However, Butt also said that Shastri got the best of the off-spinner. “Ashwin is a world-class bowler, and I agree with Shastri that his job was to state facts,” he added.
