Ishant Sharma has showered praise on Virat Kohli for setting high standards in the Indian cricket team in terms of fitness levels. Kohli has inspired many young players with his strict diet plan and intense workout sessions at the gym.
The veteran fast bowler admitted that fitness has become the most important aspect in Indian players’ lives ever since Virat has taken over as the captain of the side.
During his latest interaction with espncricinfo.com, Ishant said was asked if he has tried to convert Kohli’s food habits or is it the other way around.
Replying to the question, the 32-year-old said, “No, but Virat sets an example for everyone, for sure. Take the case of fat percentage – before him, I had never heard of it being spoken about in the team. It was only about skills. But now, along with skills, it is also about fitness.”
“If you eat well, you stay strong in the field, maintain your fitness, your energy. After what he did for himself, it totally changed the system in the Indian cricket team,” Ishant Sharma added.
Ishant also revealed that the yo-yo test was introduced during Kohli’s captaincy.
Earlier, Ishant became only the second Indian fast bowler after the legendary Kapil Dev to play 100 Test matches during the four-match Test series against England.
He is currently gearing up to play for Delhi Capitals in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League.
