The Chetan Sharma-led selection committee announced the squad for a three-match ODI series in West Indies. The selectors have rested Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, and Jasprit Bumrah.
Former India player and one of the leading commentators, Irfan Pathan, has taken a dig at the five wise men for excluding senior players from the squad.
“No one comes back to form while resting,” he wrote. Rohit, Virat, and Pant have struggled in international cricket. While the southpaw had a memorable Test match against England, scoring a hundred and fifty, he failed to get going in white-ball cricket before that.
On the other hand, Virat and Rohit, have had an ordinary outing in limited-overs games and the Indian Premier League. Virat registered three golden ducks in IPL 2022, while Rohit failed to score a fifty for the first time in a season. Even Pant, who led Delhi Capitals, was dismissed in a similar fashion match after match.
Meanwhile, Shikhar Dhawan will lead India against the Caribbean team, with Ravindra Jadeja being his deputy.
