With the franchise set to take on defending champions Mumbai Indians in the opening match of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season, former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan took to Twitter and questioned the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) fans about the playing combination for the upcoming season.
RCB, who are one of the few teams who haven’t won the IPL, made a few marquee signings in the form of Australian all-rounders, Glenn Maxwell and Daniel Christian, and Kiwi pacer Kyle Jamieson. Last month, skipper Virat Kohli confirmed that he will open the innings for the franchise this season.
“What RCB fans thinks? They have firepower in ABD, Maxwell, all-rounders but Indian batsman who plays spin well in the middle overs will be the key for them I think,” Irfan Pathan captioned an image with a suggestion of the same.
“Washington Sundar should play up the batting order since he is better suited to hit the length balls which are usually bowled during the middle overs than playing yorkers in the death overs,” Pathan suggested.
Fans were quick to react to Pathan’s suggestions and expressed their respective opinions on the same on the micro-blogging site. Here’s how Twitter reacted:
Earlier in the day, Virat joined RCB’s camp ahead of the opening game agaisnt MI. He will remain in a 7-day mandatory quarantine before the start of IPL 2021. After completing the quarantine period, he will be allowed to join the squad for the net sessions.
