Team India player Sai Sudharsan is likely to be out of action for weeks after suffering a rib fracture during the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The 24-year-old reached the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) on December 29, 2025, after experiencing pain in his rib cage following a diving effort in a contest on 26 December.

He was earlier hit in the same area while batting in the nets, but continued representing Tamil Nadu in the domestic tournament. Scans at CoE confirmed a fracture in the anterior cortex of his right seventh rib.

Medical staff of the Indian Cricket Board has drafted a rehabilitation plan, with the batter to focus on his lower body till his rib starts healing. The training of the upper body will start after a while, and the programme is designed for him to achieve full fitness.

It is a big setback for the Gujarat Titans ahead of the IPL 2026 season. He was their top performer with the bat in the previous season. Sai was in good touch, having scored runs in the early rounds of the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

The rib fracture heals without any surgery, but Sudharsan will have to be very careful during the recovery period. GT hope to welcome him when the new season of the league starts.

In six matches of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he amassed 192 runs at a strike rate of over 150. He also posted 99 runs in two matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy before getting injured. Sai has played six Test matches for India, accumulating 302 runs at an average of 27.45.
