As per the latest developments, Suryakumar Yadav won’t be available for Mumbai Indians’ first match against Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League 2022. The match is scheduled to take place on March 27 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.

The five-time champions are likely to take the field without their regular No.3 batter Suryakumar Yadav. The 31-year old hasn’t recovered from his hairline fracture on his thumb. SKY sustained the injury during the T20I series against the West Indies. The right-handed batter was ruled out of the next T20I series against Sri Lanka.

Although the attacking batsman is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore, he is likely to be unavailable for the big contest.

“Surya is currently at the NCA doing his rehabilitation. He is well on his way to recovery but there is a possibility that his participation in the opening game will be a difficult,” a senior BCCI source privy to developments was quoted as saying by the Times of India.

“So he could be asked by the medical board of the BCCI to not risk by playing the first game of MI’s fixture,” he added.

Mumbai Indians had retained Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav and Kieron Pollard for the 15th season of the tournament.

“He is certain to play in the second match against Rajasthan Royals on April 2. “I think by the second MI game, he would be completely fit to play.” the source added.
