Former Australia captain and current head coach of Delhi Capitals, Ricky Ponting has completed his mandatory seven-day quarantine and joined his team ahead of the upcoming edition of Indian Premier League.
After reuniting with the coach, young opener Prithvi Shaw welcomed him in a unique style. He said, “boss is back.”
The Delhi-based franchise recently shared a video on its social media handle in which Shaw can be seen talking about the aura of Ricky Ponting and his demeanour on and off the field.
The 21-year-old batsman wants the theme song of Shah Rukh Khan-starrer ‘Chak De India’ to be played in the background every time Ponting gives pep talks.
“He is a very nice person. On the field, he is like a boss, off the field he is like a friend. I think he is a very nice person. Let’s see how it goes (this year). Absolutely, I think when Ricky sir speaks, it should be played in the background. Shah Rukh Khan’s song,” Shaw said in a video posted on DC’s official Twitter handle.
The Mumbai-born player had a miserable outing in IPL 2020. He finished the tournament with just 228 runs from 13 games at a poor average of 17.53 and a strike rate of 136.52.
Shaw will be looking to overcome his last year’s batting woes in the 14th edition of IPL.
The Rishabh Pant-led side will start its campaign against MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings on April 10 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
