Former New Zealand skipper and the current head coach of Chennai Super Kings, Stephen Fleming has showered praise on Moeen Ali for his impressive performance in CSK’s third match of IPL 2021 against the Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Fleming has acknowledged Ali’s “instrumental” role at the number 3 position and admitted that it has helped the three-time champions to put up good totals on the board in the ongoing edition of Indian Premier League.
Batting at no. 3, the England all-rounder has scored 36, 46, and 26 in the last three games for the Chennai-based franchise.
In the match against the Sanju Samson-led side, Ali produced an all-round show and helped his side register a comfortable 45-run win.
The 33-year-old old was the pick of the CSK bowlers as he picked up three key wickets in the form of David Miller, Riyan Parag and Chris Morris to restrict RR at 143/9.
Lauding Moeen’s valuable contribution with both and ball in Mumbai, Fleming said, “He has added an all-round aspect to the game, which we lacked last year. His contributions today have been just what we were looking for. We are absolutely rapt with the way he has started. Moeen Ali has been really impressive.”
“The way he has played at no. 3 has been instrumental in us getting good scores,” the 48-year-old said in a post-match press conference.
