Delhi Capitals (DC) went top of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) points table after thumping Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 7 wickets in match 29 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Needing 167 runs, DC chased down the target with 7 wickets and 14 balls to spare. Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw gave them a flying start, adding 63 runs in the powerplay before Harpreet Brar continued his dream run, castling Shaw in the first ball of the 7th over.

Despite Shaw’s dismissal, Dhawan continued his vigil, slamming his third fifty of the season. He and Steve Smith added 48 runs for the third wicket before Riley Meredith got the better of his compatriot in the final ball of the 13th over.

Skipper Rishabh Pant slammed Chris Jordan for a six and a four before he holed out to Mayank Agarwal in the same over. In the end, Shimron Hetmyer slammed 16 runs off Meredith in the 17th over to take DC over the line.

Earlier, Punjab, after being put on to bat first, managed to reach a total of 116/6 on the back of stand-in skipper Mayank Agarwal’s unbeaten 58-ball 99. Kagiso Rabada was the pick of the bowlers for DC, having returned figures of 3 for 36.

With this win, DC go ahead of CSK in IPL 2021 points table with 12 points from 8 outings. PBKS, on the other hand, drop down to the sixth spot following Rajasthan Royals win over SunRisers Hyderabad earlier today.
