Delhi Capitals (DC) defeated defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) by 6 wickets in the 13th match of the ongoing 14th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. With this win, the Capitals moved to the second spot in the IPL 2021 points table.

Chasing a below-par total of 138 runs, Delhi Capitals got off to a shaky start as Prithvi Shaw threw away his wicket in the second over as Jayant Yadav completed a fine caught and bowled. Shikhar Dhawan and Steve Smith added 53 runs for the second wicket before Kieron Pollard dismissed the latter for 33.

Dhawan (45 off 42) smashed a six and boundary in the first two balls of the 15 over before Rahul Chahar caught him to Krunal Pandya at deep square leg. Despite a few hiccups at the death, Shimron Hetmyer and Lalit Yadav got the job done with 6 wickets and 5 balls to spare.

Earlier, Mumbai, after winning the toss, couldn’t capitalize on a decent start given by skipper Rohit Sharma. After the dismissal of Quinton de Kock in the third over, Rohit added 58 runs alongside Suryakumar Yadav for the second wicket before the latter was dismissed on 24 by Avesh Khan.

Amit Mishra then dismissed Rohit Sharma (40) and Hardik Pandya (0) in the same over to restrict MI to 77/4 after 9 overs. Lalit Yadav the castled Krunal Pandya before Mishra also got rid of Kieron Pollard and Ishan Kishan. MI were eventually restricted to 137/9 as Mishra ended with figures of 4/24.

Avesh Khan also picked up two wickets while Marcus Stoinis, Kagiso Rabada, and Lalit Yadav took a wicket each.
