India will play a Test match against Afghanistan for the second time when the two teams meet in June 2026. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced announced the schedule on Monday.

The series will include a one-off Test followed by three One-Day International (ODI) matches. The Test will be held at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh from June 6 to June 10, starting at 9:30 AM IST. This will be the first Test match at this venue.

After the Test, the teams will compete in the ODI series. The first match will be held in Dharamshala on June 14, followed by matches in Lucknow on June 17 and Chennai on June 20. All three ODIs will start at 1:30 PM IST.

“Afghanistan will play one Test match followed by a three-match One-Day International (ODI) series. The Test match will take place in New Chandigarh from June 6 to June 10, 2026. The ODI series will start on June 14, 2026, in Dharamshala, with the remaining matches in Lucknow and Chennai. All ODI matches will begin at 1:30 PM IST,” the BCCI said in a statement.

The previous Test between the two teams was in June 2018, which was also Afghanistan’s first-ever five-day game after getting Test status from the International Cricket Council in 2017. India won that match in two days at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, with Ajinkya Rahane leading the side.

India scored 474 in their first innings, with Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan amassing hundreds. Afghanistan were bowled out for 109 and 103 on the same day, and India won by an innings and 262 runs. Afghanistan became the fourth team in Test history to be dismissed twice in one day.

Since their first Test match, Afghanistan has played 11 Tests and won three. In 2019, they secured victories over Ireland and Bangladesh. Most recently, they triumphed over Zimbabwe in January 2025. This win was their first Test series victory in a multi-match series after drawing the opening game in December 2024.
