RCB head coach Sanjay Bangar has said that he is not sure that Shubman Gill has sealed the opening spot for the 2023 ODI World Cup in India.
The 23-year-old scored a double hundred as India beat New Zealand by 12 runs in Hyderabad. Speaking with Star Sports, Bangar said Ishan Kishan has registered the same landmark in Bangladesh, which is why he is not sure of Gill’s place.
“I am not sure as Ishan Kishan is also a double centurion. He is a left-handed batter as well. They are of a similar age category,” he said on Star Sports.
He said it is a good thing for the Men in Blue to have talented players and the management will have to chose their opening pair from three cricketers.
“A great thing for Indian cricket as it has narrowed down the search to three players and out of these, two will certainly open in the 50-over World Cup,” he said.
Former India player Sanjay Manjrekar agreed with Bangar, saying anything could happen before the tournament as IPL and 20 ODIs are scheduled before it.
“Bangar is right as India dropped Ishan Kishan after scoring a double hundred and the same could happen to Shubman Gill as well,” he said.a
“IPL and 20 matches are there before the 2023 ODI World Cup in India, so who knows what can happen,” he added.
