Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar warned Virat Kohli after he failed in the first ODI match against West Indies on Sunday in Ahmedabad, where he scored 8 off 4 balls.
Alzarri Joseph tested Virat with short deliveries. He hit the two for boundaries which helped him reach the milestone of 5000 ODI runs at home, and he mistimed the fourth delivery and was caught in the deep.
Gavaskar said that with Kohli ready to go after the short-pitched deliveries, the bowlers will dish out the same variety against the veteran player.
He warned Virat to be careful of such tactics in the remaining two matches of the series.
“Even South Africa wanted to try this tactics in one-day international as Virat loves playing the short ball. In the first ODI against West Indies, he went for his shot but the ball was bit higher and and he was caught in the deep. The West Indies bowlers will again target him with same stuff so he has to be careful,” he said.
