Ruturaj Gaikwad has been ruled out of the T20I series against Sri Lanka. He was all set to play the opening game in Lucknow but was omitted from the squad at the last moment. Meanwhile, Mayank Agarwal has joined the national team as his replacement.
This is the second time Mayank has been added to the squad. Earlier, he joined the team after Shikhar Dhawan, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shreyas Iyer has tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of the first ODI between India and West Indies in Ahmedabad.
“Ruturaj Gaikwad complained of pain in his right wrist, which is affecting his batting. He was unavailable for selection for the first T20I. The BCCI Medical Team is examining him,” BCCI stated in a media release yesterday.
Skipper Rohit Sharma also confirmed his unavailability for the series opener. ” We have six changes from the last game against the West Indies. Ruturaj was supposed to play but he has a wrist injury and is not playing,” said Rohit Sharma.
India defeated Sri Lanka by 62 runs to take a 1-0 lead in a three-match series. Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer and Rohit Sharma made useful contributions with the bat. The visitors managed just 137/6 in 20 overs. The remaining two matches will be played in Dharamshala.
