Former India cricketer and one of the famous commentators, Sunil Gavaskar, has given his verdict on KL Rahul’s captaincy in the second Test match against South Africa. India lost the game by 7 wickets with series now levelled at 1-1.
Regular skipper Virat Kohli was ruled out due to back spasm. However, India have never lost a Test where Virat hasn’t featured in the Playing XI since 2014. The sub-continent team won 4 while two ended in a draw where Kohli was either injured or rested.
Speaking on Star Sports, Gavaskar said KL Rahul should have placed fielders in a way to deny easy singles to South Africa captain Dean Elgar.
“Field placements were below-par which allowed Elgar to take singles. He doesn’t play a lot of strokes but one or twos helped him to settle down. But, I don’t want to take away the credit from the home team. They won the game and I don’t think India lost it,” said Gavaskar.
