India were dismissed for just 189 runs in their first innings of the opening Test against South Africa at the Eden Gardens. The hosts took a lead of 30 runs, with captain Shubman Gill retiring hurt after facing just three balls.
The Proteas were magnificent with the ball and didn’t allow the rivals to settle down on the second day of the contest. The sub-continent team started the proceedings on 37/1, but after the dismissal of KL Rahul and Washington Sundar, the remaining batters failed to get going. Simon Harmer was the pick of the bowlers, taking 4 wickets, while Marco Jansen added three scalps to his bowling figures.
Keshav Maharaj and Corbin Bosch picked up one wicket each. For India, Rahul was the top run-getter, amassing 39 runs, with the help of 4 boundaries and 1 six.
