Overview:
He achieved the feat quicker than any other batter from full-member nations, and is the first player globally to reach the mark inside 100 innings.
Suryakumar Yadav entered the record books during the first T20I against Australia at Manuka Oval in Canberra. Despite coming into the series on the back of a disappointing Asia Cup, the India captain quickly regained his form, reminding everyone why he’s a T20I legend.
Suryakumar Yadav walked in following Abhishek Sharma’s wicket and immediately found his rhythm. Partnering with Shubman Gill, he helped India build a steady platform with a 62-run stand. The right-hander was on 39 from 24 balls, hitting three boundaries and two towering sixes, when rain brought the contest to an early end.
Suryakumar Yadav’s second six of the match carried him into elite company, as he became only the second Indian, after Rohit Sharma, to hit 150 sixes in T20Is. He achieved the feat quicker than any other batter from full-member nations, and is the first player globally to reach the mark inside 100 innings.
Most Sixes In T20Is
Surya reached the landmark in only 91 matches and 86 innings, bettering Martin Guptill’s record of 105 games to achieve the same feat.
| Sixes | Matches | Batter |
| 205 | 159 | Rohit Sharma |
| 187 | 91 | Muhammad Waseem |
| 173 | 122 | Martin Guptill |
| 172 | 144 | Jos Buttler |
| 150* | 91 | Suryakumar Yadav |
The only player to reach 150 T20I sixes faster than Suryakumar Yadav is Muhammad Waseem from the UAE, who did so in 66 innings. With plenty of cricket left in him, Suryakumar has a strong chance of breaking Rohit Sharma’s record for most T20I sixes. While Rohit has retired from T20Is, Yadav’s main competition will be Jos Buttler. Given India’s heavier T20I schedule, Surya is likely to surpass Buttler in the near future.
