Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell wants to bowl in the powerplay overs in the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup, which will be hosted by India and Sri Lanka. In 123 T20I matches, he has taken 49 wickets at an economy rate of 8.17. His best bowling figures of 3/10 were recorded against England in 2018.
He could be helpful in the powerplay overs against top-order batters. His bowling variations and accuracy make him a wicket-taking bowler, allowing Australia to get early breakthroughs and create pressure.

However, Maxwell gets surprised whenever he picks up a wicket. “There is more help for the spinners in the sub-continent, especially with the new ball. The ball grips on the dry surfaces, so it is something we can implement moving forward,” he said.
“I’m just as surprised as anyone when I get a wicket. I love dismissing batters. It is surprising when I get someone out. I am there to do a job for my country in the powerplay overs and I am trying to execute my plans,’ he added.
He has taken 17 wickets in the powerplay overs. Maxwell has been more impressive in the IPL since 2022. He has an economy rate of 7.30 in the first six overs, dismissing eight batters.
In the ongoing three-match T20I series against the Proteas, he has claimed three scalps but has leaked runs at an economy rate of 9.12. He has managed just 17 runs at an average of 8.50
