Virat Kohli is an idol for the fans and his teammates. Every cricketer wishes to impress Virat Kohli and Akash Deep is no different. RCB star Akash Deep has revealed why his Bengal teammate Manoj Tiwary asked him to impress Virat Kohli.

The 25-year-old from Bengal got introduced to the IPL as a replacement player for injured Washington Sundar in the 2021 edition. The right-arm pacer revealed that in those moments, he recalled Manoj Tiwary’s advice who told him to impress Virat Kohli. He revealed that the latter said if he manages to impress Kohli, then he will play the IPL and can even represent India.

Speaking with Indian Express, Deep revealed, “Virat is India’s captain, and if you manage to impress him, you will get to play in the IPL next season and might play for India as well because you have all the ingredients to become a good fast bowler.’ That was my goal, and I managed to do well in the practice matches and was later picked in the auction.”

The player was successful in leaving a lasting impression on Kohli. As a result, RCB bought him for 20 Lakh at the mega auction. The pacer took 5 wickets in the 5 matches he played for the franchise in IPL 2022.

Aakash Deep further revealed that he was shocked that Virat knew a lot about him. “I was shocked that he knew where I am from, my journey, struggle, and everything. While giving me the cap, he said, ‘You deserve to be here. Just keep doing what you have done in the past. Just enjoy yourself, stick to your process.’ It was a very emotional moment.”

He signed off by saying,” As a kid, when we used to watch the likes of Kohli and Dhoni on TV, I used to think whether I would ever get a chance to meet them in my life. In my mind, they were like superheroes. And from the place I come from, I never thought that someday, I would end up sharing the dressing room with Kohli. Sab Sapna hai.”
