Arjun Tendulkar was expected to get a game for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. However, the all-rounder was not picked in the playing XI during the course of 14 games. Arjun, who was bought by MI for INR 30 lakh, kept warming the bench.
The management gave almost all the young players a chance, barring Arjun. Reacting to the matter, former Indian captain Kapil Dev said that Arjun will always be under pressure because of his surname. The legendary player feels Arjun shouldn’t be compared to his father and should be allowed to play the game freely.
“Let him play the game freely, and do not compare him with Sachin. To have a Tendulkar surname has advantages and disadvantages. Don Bradman’s son changed his name because he was not able to deal with the pressure,” Kapil Dev said on Uncut.
Kapil added that if he can be half the player Sachin was, he would have done well for himself.
“I want him to enjoy cricket. No need to prove anything. If he can become even 50 percent like Sachin, there is nothing better.”
