ICC has taken action against Team India’s pacer Arshdeep Singh for hitting New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell with the ball during the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium on March 8. He has been fined 15 percent of his match fee, with the ICC announcing the decision on March 10 and stated that the left-arm speedster was sanctioned for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct.
He was found guilty of breaching Article 2.9, which deals with the throwing of a ball or any other cricket equipment in a dangerous manner during an international contest.
One demerit point was also added to Arshdeep’s disciplinary record. It was the first offence of the Indian player in the past 24 months.
There was no need for a formal hearing as the Indian bowler accepted the sanction imposed by the ICC Match Referee Andy Pycroft. Mitchell and Arshdeep were seen shaking hands after the over, and the seamer also apologised to the rival batter after the match.
A player is warned, and a maximum penalty of 50 percent of the match fee could be imposed along with one of two demerit points. When a player reaches the limit of four or more demerit points in 24 months, they are banned.
The incident happened in the 11th over when Arshdeep reacted angrily after being hit for two sixes. Mitchell played a dot ball on the fifth delivery. Arshdeep picked up the ball and fired a throw in the direction of the stumps. However, it hit Daryl, who lost his cool and scolded the opposite number. Arshdeep didn’t even apologise, and India captain Suryakumar Yadav had to intervene to control the situation.
Arshdeep was also been warned by the on-field umpire for his act.
