West Indies bowler Jayden Seales was fined 25 percent of his match fees by the ICC after he threw the ball at Indian batter Yashasvi Jaiswal on Day 1 of the second Test at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The incident was classified as a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct, specifically under Article 2.9.
The pacer’s disciplinary record now includes an extra demerit point, pushing his total to two, after a similar breach during the second Test against Bangladesh in Jamaica in 2024. During that match, he made aggressive gestures towards the opposition after taking a wicket.
On the opening day of the Test between India and the West Indies in Delhi, Yashasvi Jaiswal hit a series of boundaries off Jayden Seales early in the second session.
In a moment of frustration, Seales aggressively threw the ball at Jaiswal, hitting his pads. Though the bowler immediately apologised before resuming his run-up, the action was considered punishable by the match officials.
As per an ICC statement, Seales disagreed with the charges imposed by the match officials, which led to the need for a formal hearing to address the matter.
Seales contended that his throw was meant to hit the stumps for a run-out, as Jaiswal left his crease. However, after reviewing the incident, the match referee decided that the throw was “unnecessary and inappropriate,” keeping the original charges in place.
Jayden Seales went without a wicket in the first innings, with figures of 0-88 from 22 overs, as India put up a dominant 518-5 against the West Indies, declaring during the second day.
