South Africa and Pakistan registered the first close contest of ICC World Cup 2023, as the match was in balance and up for both teams to win until the last shot.
South Africa won the match by one wicket, and Pakistan almost had the game in their hand, had a DRS decision gone their way. There was a debate over Tabraiz Shamsi’s LBW appeal. However, it was not the only time, when DRS technology was under the scanner in yesterday’s match.

Rassie van der Dussen got out making 21 (39), when he got trapped in front of the wickets, and the umpire raised his finger for LBW. Looking by the naked eye, it looked like going down the leg side.
Rassie took a DRS, and the technology showed umpires call for ‘pitching’ and ‘wickets hitting’, which left Dussen in disbelief. However, the first replay of the DRS check showed that the balls missed the stumps, but the replay was immediately taken off the air.
The fans took notice of the first replay, and a controversy erupted over Dussen’s dismissal. The fans cried of a foul play. Here is the video of the incident.
In the latest events, ICC has issued a clarification and remarked that the first replay that showed the ball missing the stumps was a mistake, but it had no impact on the decision and the right decision was made.
“In today’s match between South Africa and Pakistan, an incomplete graphic was erroneously displayed during the LBW review of Rassie van der Dussen. The completed graphic with the right details was ultimately displayed,” remarked an ICC spokesperson.
