It’s been 15 years since India won the inaugural edition of the ICC T20 World Cup in 2007 under MS Dhoni’s captaincy.
The Men in Blue defeated Pakistan in the finale to lift the trophy. In the 2007 50-over World Cup, India were eliminated from the group stage, so many seniors decided to skip the T20 global event.
India had a new captain in the form of Dhoni. Speaking to Sports18 a few months back, Yuvraj revealed that he was supposed to be India’s new captain and MS Dhoni became skipper out of nowhere.
“I was supposed to be the captain. Then the Greg Chappell incident happened. It became Chappell or Sachin, and I supported my teammate. Some BCCI officials did not like that and said they should make anybody captain but not me. This is what I heard,” Yuvraj told Sports18.
“I am not sure how true it is. I was removed from vice-captaincy as well. So, out of nowhere, Dhoni became the leader for the 2007 T20 World Cup,” he added.
