India have been blessed with many good players, and Venkatesh Iyer is one of them. He showed his class in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy with scores of 68*, 57, 42, and 28 coming from his bat. However, his season was cut short due to an ankle injury, and the player was operated on to fix the problem.
The all-rounder is at the NCA and is aiming for a return to the Indian side. However, it will be challenging. He didn’t do anything wrong, but he will be the second choice to Hardik Pandya.
When Hardik regained his full fitness, Iyer was dropped from the squad. The 27-year-old admitted that the management did the right thing as he has yet to reach a stage to challenge Hardik.
“I wanted to have a long run with the Indian team, but Hardik Pandya returned. He has been amazing for the team and has played a couple of match-winning innings. Hardik has been brilliant with the ball as well. My selection is not in my hands,” he told CricketNext.
