Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan are the two best spinners in the history of Test cricket. While the Sri Lankan wizard took 800 Test wickets, the Aussie magician ended his Test career with 709 dismissals. James Anderson with 619 wickets is nearing his end. R Ashwin and Nathan Lyon with 430 and 415 wickets have an outside chance to surpass the two legendary spinners.
While Muralitharan has backed Ashwin to break his world record, Warne wants the Indian spinner and Lyon to reach 1000-wicket mark in the longest format of the game.
“I hope both Ashwin and Lyon do (break Warne and Muralitharan’s record), because the more we see quality spin bowlers bowling, it makes for more interesting cricket. I hope Ashwin takes 1000 Test wickets, Lyon takes 1000 Test wickets,” Warne told Hindustan Times in an interview arranged by BookMyShow stream.
