India’s Shreyas Iyer was named man of the match after scoring 92 in the first innings and 67 in the second.
“I saw the batters struggling so I knew I had to be attacking and put the pressure back on the bowlers,” Iyer said.
“I didn’t worry about the hundred, I just wanted to bat as many balls as possible in the second innings. I have always dreamt about playing test cricket for India. It is a good feeling to come and contribute, and I want to keep this going.”
Iyer has been in fine form across formats in international cricket. The 27-year old remained not out in the T20I series against Sri Lanka, smashing more than 200 runs in three matches.
He was named the Man of the Series for his efforts. Iyer also won the ICC Player of the Month for his magnificent performance in February.
