Overview:
Abbott revealed he has signed with Surrey for County Cricket and is targeting a return to the Australian Test team.
Sean Abbott is aiming to rejoin the Australian Test squad after recovering from a hamstring injury. The right-arm fast bowler was part of Australia’s Ashes lineup for the first Test against England, which the hosts won by eight wickets in Perth. Having played 57 international white-ball matches, Abbott has long been on the edge of Test selection, and the prized Baggy Green cap has continued to elude him. “The timing was really poor. I’ll admit that,” he said ahead of his Boxing Day return for the Sydney Sixers, according to cricket.com.au.
“I was included in the Test squad only for the first match. I won’t speculate on future selections, but I think many Australian players would agree that taking part in an Ashes series is the ultimate achievement in our sport, something you dream about as a child, and I still do,” Abbott added.
The pacer admitted that he only understood the severity of his injury against Victoria after getting it scanned.
“I haven’t felt any discomfort from my injury over the past six weeks, so I’ve been concentrating on pacing myself. I’m just reminding myself to take it a bit easier at times,” he mentioned.
“Hunger has never been a problem for me. I’m proud that I’ve always been able to compartmentalise, stay focused on what’s next, step back and view situations clearly, and recognise the other opportunities I’ve had.”
Abbott revealed he has signed with Surrey for County Cricket and is targeting a return to the Australian Test team.
“Starting next season, there are around 20 Tests lined up. I’ve signed with Surrey in county cricket, and I’m really looking forward to the four-day grind as well as some T20 action. I feel my game is in a good place, and I’m ready to contribute if I get a call to the Test squad,” he concluded.
