BCCI has decided to provide financial assistance to the Olympic-bound athletes

A few days after the suspension of Indian Premier League 2021 due to multiple COVID-19 cases during the tournament, the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly has asserted that it is difficult to say how the novel coronavirus breached the secure IPL bio bubble.

Although the former India skipper feels that travelling and playing at six different venues might have let the virus breach the teams’ bio-bubbles in IPL 2021.

The marquee tournament was scheduled to play across six cities in India – Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata.

However, after the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Delhi Capitals (DC), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) camps were marred by the coronavirus, BCCI decided to suspend the league for an indefinite period.

“I really don’t know what led to this situation inside the bio-security bubble. We will have to do a post-mortem and look into the reasons behind this. But travelling could have been an issue,” Ganguly told The Telegraph.

“Last year in the UAE, everything was restricted to three venues and within a limited area. There was no air travel involved. Here, we had six different venues,” he added.

The legendary batsman also expressed his concern over the worsening COVID-19 situation in India.

“You also have to look at the situation around the country. The way numbers of people are getting affected on a daily basis is total madness. No one knows what is going to happen tomorrow,” Dada said in his latest interview session.
