The national selection committee has announced India’s 15-members squad for the Asia Cup 2022. While Virat Kohli, KL Rahul and Yuzvendra Chahal have returned, Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel have been ruled out due to injuries. Former chairman of the selection committee, Kiran More, questioned the presence of R Ashwin in the squad.
The spin attack includes Yuzvendra Chahal, Ashwin, Ravi Bishnoi, Ravindra Jadeja and Deepak Hooda.
Speaking to Star Sports, he said India should have picked Mohammed Shami or Axar Patel instead of Ashwin.
“Even I was surprised. How can R Ashwin play for India in Asia Cup 2022? Look at his IPL record. It is not good. I want wicket-taking bowlers. Mohammed Shami or Axar Patel should have been selected in his place. Shami can pick wickets at any stage of the game,’ he said.
Earlier, Krishnamachari Srikkanth also questioned Ashwin’s place in the T20I squad.
