Sourav Ganguly-led BCCI is enjoying the best of times after the addition of two new IPL franchises. The two teams would be based in Ahmedabad and Lucknow in the new edition of IPL 2021.
The RPSG group and international investment firm CVC Capital are the owners of the two new IPL franchises. The RPSG Group have bought Lucknow based franchise with a winning bid of INR 7090 crores while CVC Capital have picked Ahmedabad as their home with a bid of INR 5166 crores.
Alyssa Healy, the Aussie cricketer and the wife of Mitchell Starc, is hoping to see a part of the money the BCCI got after the entry of two franchises, going to women’s cricket. Despite introducing a central contract system, women’s cricket still lags behind in India. The national cricketers are paid peanuts while their male counterparts are earning millions.
Alyssa Healy said the BCCI just got a $2 billion payday and hopefully, some of that will go back into women’s cricket and maybe a women’s IPL in the near future.
