Rohit Sharma has been sacked as captain.

Rohit Sharma has been sacked as an ODI captain by the BCCI just before the three-match series against Australia. Shubman Gill is the new captain in the fifty-over format, with Shreyas Iyer becoming vice-captain. Ajit Agarkar, the chief selector, justified the decision, saying Gill needs time due to the scheduling of fewer fifty-over games before the 2027 ODI World Cup. He also mentioned his conversation with Rohit, but didn’t reveal what they spoke about while taking a big call.

Indian fans are miffed with the Agarkar-led panel and slammed the decision-makers, considering Rohit led India to the ICC Champions Trophy earlier this year.

He is the legend of the game and was leading the Men in Blue to success, but the Indian cricket board decided to remove him. Agarkar further added that it is tough to have different captains in different formats.

Shubman Gill was appointed the Test captain, following Rohit’s retirement before the tour of England. The 25-year-old was Suryakumar Yadav’s deputy in the T20 Asia Cup, meaning the selectors are thinking of making him an all-format captain in the future.
