India posted a strong score of 416 on Day 2 of the rescheduled fifth Test against England in Edgbaston. Pant scored a magnificent 146 off 111 balls, with the help of 19 fours and 4 sixes.

Pant, alongside Ravindra Jadeja (104), stitched a 222-run stand for the sixth wicket. Former Pakistan player Rashid Latif heaped praise on the Indian batter and went on to say that he is the “Brian Lara of wicketkeepers.”

“He’s the Brian Lara of wicketkeepers. This match is taking place in Birmingham, the same place where Brian Lara scored 501 for Warwickshire. Pant showed us glimpses of Lara,” he said.

Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah is enjoying a dream debut as India captain with bat and ball as England was made to struggle on a rain-hit second day of the series-deciding test at Edgbaston on Saturday.

Bumrah hammered fast bowler Stuart Broad for the most expensive over in test cricket history. Then, given the ball, Bumrah took 3-35 to have England limping at 84-5 by stumps in reply to India’s 416 all out. Ben Stokes’ team was trailing by 332 runs.
