The spotlight on Arjun Tendulkar has been relentless from the moment he entered the professional ranks. With Sachin Tendulkar’s towering legacy looming large, the benchmarks placed before him were extraordinary. Still in the early stages of his journey, Arjun is steadily trying to establish himself in the domestic circuit as a fast-bowling all-rounder.

Arjun Tendulkar, a left-arm seamer, has tasted IPL action, played domestic cricket for Goa, and is set for a new chapter with Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2026. His ability with the bat is reflected in a First-Class century, offering signs that years of close guidance from Sachin Tendulkar have influenced his skill set.

A glimpse into that side of Arjun Tendulkar’s skill set came from Yograj Singh, a well-known and outspoken figure in India’s domestic coaching scene. In a conversation on Ravish Bisht’s YouTube channel, Yograj recalled Arjun spending a few weeks training under him earlier in his career and admitted he was taken aback by the youngster’s batting ability, which proved far more impressive than expected.

“I had never watched him bat before, so I thought, let’s see what he’s got. He went into the nets, and in no time, he was hitting fours and sixes all over the place. I turned to his coach and said, ‘How have you never let him bat before?'” Yograj said.

“He’s a batter of exceptional quality, very much like his father. He would come to the nets and practice for three hours every day. After 12 days of that, he played his first Ranji Trophy match and scored a century,” Yograj recalled, giving full credit to the young player.

Arjun Tendulkar made an impressive start to his career by scoring a century on his Ranji Trophy debut for Goa in 2022, mirroring his father’s achievement. However, his batting has struggled to build on that early promise, with an average of 21 in First-Class cricket and only two additional half-centuries in the three years since his debut.

“Here’s a guy who practices for 12 days and then scores a century in Ranji, yet you’ve never allowed him to bat before. I even reached out to the Mumbai IPL team, suggesting they let him open the batting for a couple of matches, but they didn’t. I’m telling you, the talent is there,” Yograj said, offering high praise for Arjun.
