India will next play against Australia in the all-important World Test Championship final from June 7-11, where they will miss their star seamer Jasprit Bumrah, who has been out with an injury.
Notably, the right-arm-quick has not featured for India since September 2022 due to a persistent back issue. After missing out on crucial tournaments like Asia Cup and T20 World Cup last year, Bumrah was supposed to return in January but was deemed unfit despite being named in the squad for the series against Sri Lanka.
Later the 29-year-old underwent a successful back surgery in New Zealand in April and was advised to rest before returning to the training field.
In the latest development, Bumrah dropped a major health update, as the right-arm seamer uploaded a picture of cricket shoes on Instagram, where he wrote, “Hello friend, we meet again.”
The post hinted at Bumrah’s return to training and is said to be in Bengaluru at the NCA. Further, it is reported that Jasprit will hopefully be fit for the Asia Cup in September 2023. However, the BCCI would not look to rush things with Bumrah, as they have an all-important fifty-over World Cup in India in October.
