India have sealed the ODI series after winning the second consecutive match, but batting continues to trouble the hosts. India were reduced to 43/3, after which a 91-run partnership between KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav reduced the pressure. However, the Rohit Sharma-led India managed just 237/9 from the allotted 50 overs.
The idea of opening the batting with Rishabh Pant and sending KL Rahul to No.4 slot was not liked by Sunil Gavaskar, who feels the roles should be reversed. The former India player further added that team missed a star all-rounder who can score runs, take wickets and save runs in the field.
“I was surprised to see Rishabh Pant coming as an opener. For me, he should bat at No.6 with KL Rahul opening the batting. Suryakumar Yadav should bat at No.4,” he said.
“India are missing Ravindra Jadeja, who is a brilliant batter and can hit big shots. Jadeja is a genuine wicket-taker and is an asset in the field,” he added.
