Jaffer said he is concerned with Yuzvendra Chahal's form, and the team may not take him as its lead spinner for the T20 World Cup.

Former India opener Wasim Jaffer is one of the social media’s most active cricketing personalities. The 44-year-old regularly assesses the latest development and recently expressed concerns about Team India’s spin department.

Jaffer said he is concerned with Yuzvendra Chahal’s form, and the team may not take him as its lead spinner for the T20 World Cup.

“If the conditions are against him, he has the least impact in the game. Chahal lacks variety. I will be concerned if he goes to the World Cup as the lead spinner.”

Notably, Chahal has been leaking runs since the Asia Cup, which is a concerning sign for India. The leg-spinner picked four wickets in the Asia Cup and gave away 127 runs in four matches.

Against Australia in the 1st T20I, he picked up the wicket of Tim David in the final over but conceded 42 runs in 3.2 overs.

Chahal was not a part of the 2021 World Cup, but his heroics in this year’s IPL made him a regular in the team. The 32-year-old won the purple cap for picking up 27 wickets.

Jaffer further opined that youngster Ravi Bishnoi should be considered as the main spinner for the World Cup.

“I would look at Bishnoi. He gives you something different, which Chahal doesn’t.”
