England’s new sensation Harry Brook has opted out of the first edition of the SA20 to manage his workload. He was associated with Joburg Super Kings.
The franchise and Cricket South Africa (CSA) were informed by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Wednesday (December 28).
“He plays three formats, and the ECB thinks it is too risky to allow him to play in the SA20. We received the information from the ECB last night,” revealed Kasi Viswanathan, the CEO of Chennai Super Kings, which also owns the Johannesburg franchise. “We will look for a replacement,” he added.
Brook was bought for R 2.10 million by the franchise at the auction. However, he is expected to play a three-match ODI series between England and South Africa, which will take place in the middle of the competition’s inaugural season.
The ECB will allow him to play in the Indian Premier League, where Sunrisers Hyderabad bought him for INR 13.25 crore.
Faf du Plessis is the skipper of the Super Kings, with Stephen Fleming serving as the head coach. Albie Morkel and Eric Simons are part of the coaching staff,
