Overview:
Harmanpreet Kaur has become the most successful captain in T20Is.
India captain Harmanpreet Kaur entered the record books when she became the most successful captain in the history of T20Is. She registered the milestone for most wins, going past former Australia skipper Meg Lanning. She achieved the feat after India defeated Sri Lanka by eight wickets in the third T20I of the five-match T20I series at the Green Field International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. The 36-year-old has led the Women in Blue to 77 victories in 130 T20Is, surpassing Lanning, who won 76 of her 100 games as the skipper.
England’s Heather Knight (71 victories in 96 contests) and Charlotte Edwards (68 victories in 93 games) are also part of the list.
Earlier, Harmanpreet became the first skipper to lead India to the Women’s World Cup triumph after her team thumped South Africa in the final of the tournament at the Dr DY Patil Stadium.
Meanwhile, Deepti Sharma also reached a milestone against Sri Lanka, becoming the first player to amass 1000 runs and 150 wickets in T20Is.
Deepti took three wickets and became the joint-highest wicket-taker in women’s T20Is, equalling Australia’s Megan Schutt, who accumulated 151 wickets. Sri Lanka failed to challenge India in the third contest and the host nation completed the chase of 113 in 13.2 overs. Shafali Verma posted 79 for her team.
Renuka Singh Thakur got rid of four Sri Lanka batters as the visitors were restricted to 112/7 in 20 overs. The hosts have taken a 3-0 lead.
“It has been a great series for us. We wanted to perform well after the World Cup. We will have to be aggressive in T20 format as the World Cup is coming. I am happy with the overall performance,” Harmanpreet Kaur said.
“If you keep bowl well, you have more chances to clinch victories. Credit goes to our bowlers as we are in a winning position because of them.”
