KL Rahul could lose vice-captaincy due to his fitness issues in one format. Rahul, who was given the role in 2021, has missed many series in the last one year and is not part of the ongoing five-match T20I series in West Indies. He could lose the post to Hardik Pandya.

According to InsideSport, Hardik will be named Team India’s vice-captain when the selectors announce the squad for the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia.

“The 28-year-old has excellent leadership skills and we saw that in the Indian Premier League 2022. He led Gujarat Titans to IPL title in their maiden season. He will surely do well,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport.

Pandya was Rishabh Pant’s deputy in the series against South Africa. He captained India in a two-match T20I series in Ireland. Hardik has been named India’s vice-captain for the ongoing series against West Indies ahead of Rishabh.
