The T20 World Cup is set to begin on the 16th of October in Australia, with the Men in Blue looking to reinstate their dominance in the game’s shortest format after a humiliating exit from the 2021 World Cup campaign.
A lot of talented players are in the race to make it to the flight to Australia. However, the most impressive performance came from Hardik Pandya. The IPL-winning captain impressed everyone, including the fans and cricket pundits, with his all-around abilities. This feat saw Pandya being included in the squad for the T20I series against the Proteas starting on the 9th of June.
The 28-year-old is back in the Indian squad for the first time since the ICC T20 World Cup. Speaking about Pandya and his abilities, he has been getting a lot of suggestions from the veterans of the game, and the latest to join the list is former India head coach Ravi Shastri.
Speaking about Pandya, in Star Sports’ Game Plan, Ravi Shastri said, “Pandya’s role in the squad is either of a batter or an all-rounder. I don’t think the extent of his injury is such that he cannot bowl 2 overs for the team. Pandya has had ample amount of rest to recover from his injury and will continue to have ample rest as he should be just limited to playing T20I matches until this year’s World Cup.”
Shastri was full of praise for the winning captain and hailed his all-around abilities. The 66-year-old mentioned that Pandya performs the role of two players. He can bat at 4,5,6, and bowl at any given point of time in the match.
Pandya was GT’s highest run-scorer in the tournament as he scored 487 runs in 15 matches, producing his personal best IPL season as a batter. He also picked 8 wickets in the tournament. His current form reminds him of Prime Pandya before his injury, and even Shastri feels that Pandya must be used carefully to avoid any injury.
