Former India cricketer Irfan Pathan was not happy with the way Ajinkya Rahane and Rahul Dravid led India in the first Test against New Zealand in Kanpur. The visitors managed to keep the hosts at bay by earning a well deserving draw. The pair of Rachin Ravindra and Ajaz Patel played out more than 50 balls to deny India of a possible win.
Rahul Dravid defended India’s declaration timing, which many thought came late.
“Had Virat Kohli been there in this Test match, the result would have been different today. Yesterday India could have played aggressively and declare earlier. Had Virat Kohli been there, then this thing must Have happened.” said Irfan Pathan.
The umpires checked fading light repeatedly but play carried on until the dramatic call-off with approximately two overs remaining.
Both sides earned four points for a draw in the World Test Championship. The second and final test begins in Mumbai on Friday.
