Hardik Pandya was expected to resume bowling in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League.
The all-rounder, who was signed by Gujarat Titans for IPL 2022, was named their skipper as well.
However, the team’s head coach Ashish Nehra has revealed that Hardik was brought on board for his batting and they never expected him to bowl for them.
“We are more than happy to have him as a batter. If he bowls, it is an added advantage. I don’t think there is any team in the world who wouldn’t take him as a batsman,” Nehra told India Today.
Nehra made this statement after buying all-rounders Rahul Tewatia, Jayant Yadav and Vijay Shankar at the IPL 2022 mega auction.
“There is always speculation around his bowling. If he bowls for us, it will be good. However, I will be happy if he is only batting fit,” he added.
Earlier, Hardik was slammed for not bowling in the ICC T20 World Cup, which impacted Team India.
He was dropped from the Indian team following his poor display in the UAE and was not considered for the series against New Zealand, South Africa and West Indies.
The wise men of the selection committee will not consider him till he gets bowling fit.
Pandya has skipped the Ranji Trophy to regain full fitness before the 15th season of the cash-rich league.
Meanwhile, the Titans have also added Gary Kirsten and Vikram Solanki to the support staff.
Kirsten is the batting coach and mentor, while Vikram is the director of cricket.
