Shami made it to the team after Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out.

Wasim Jaffer is unsure how taking a break from the tour of the West Indies would help former India captain Virat Kohli. He said playing regular games would have been more beneficial for the out-of-form batter.

The 33-year-old was not a part of the Indian squad announced earlier for the ODI series in West Indies. On Thursday, his name didn’t figure in the T20I team for the five-match series in the Caribbean.

He was dismissed for 16 in the second ODI against England at Lord’s. Admitting that the pressure is growing on the legendary batter, Jaffer told ESPNcricinfo, “Every innings will pile pressure on him and put doubt in his mind. People keep reminding him, which adds up to him. If he had played the T20 matches against the West Indies, he would have been in touch with the game. I don’t know if the break will help him. Next innings will be crucial for the senior player.”

Virat will play in the third and final ODI against England, and then he will be on an extended break before his return.

Team India skipper Rohit Sharma has backed his teammate amid his slump across formats in international cricket.
