The Board of Cricket Control for India (BCCI) has urged the Supreme Court to urgently hear its plea to amend the constitution.

The Supreme Court of India on Thursday adjourned the case pertaining to BCCI President and Secretary Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah respectively. The apex court will hear the matter after two weeks. BCCI wants the tenure of Sourav and Shah to be extended.

Their time period ad ended in mid-2020. However, they have continued to discharge their duties as the Supreme Court has failed to take up the matter.

The matter was deferred on December 9 into the New Year. After that, it was adjourned to March.

According to the new constitution of the BCCI, it is mandatory for president, vice-president, secretary, joint secretary, and treasurer to serve a cooling period after serving the chair for six years, either in the BCCI or State Associations, or both.

After being elected BCCI president on October 23 in 2019, Ganguly was eligible to serve for 278 days as he was the head of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB). His President term ended on July 26, 2020.

Secretary Shah was associated with the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) as its joint secretary since September 8, 2013.
