Cricket is a cruel sport at times. MS Dhoni’s run-out against New Zealand in the semis of the 2019 World Cup broke many hearts.
A lot of fans had felt that MS Dhoni should have dived to prevent his dismissal. It’s been more than 3 years but the former players continue to debate on the heartbreaking match.
Parthiv Patel is the latest player to join the list. He indirectly blamed Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri for India’s defeat.
The 37-year-old feels that MS should have been promoted in the batting order. Notably, Dhoni batter at No.7 spot when the Men in Blue had lost 5 wickets for 71.
Dhoni was India’s best finisher during his time and could have sailed India’s boat safely to the shores had he been promoted, according to Patel.
He said, “Dinesh Karthik was sent to bat ahead of MS Dhoni in a a difficult situation. Players like Dhoni cannot win you games sitting in the dressing room.”
Patel further added that India missed out tactically against the Kiwis.
Patel pointed out the same reason behind India’s lack of ICC trophies in nine years. He said, “India couldn’t win ICC trophies due to tactical errors.”
He concluded by saying that New Zealand were a better team.
India were chasing a target of 240. MS Dhoni was the star performer, alongside Ravindra Jadeja in a below-par batting display by the rest of the players. The captain cool struck 50 of 72 balls. The Blackcaps won the match by 18 runs.
