Veteran pacer Mohit Sharma recently opened up about his bond and shared interest in shoes with the legendary wicketkeeper and former captain, MS Dhoni.
Having shared the cricketing journey under Dhoni’s captaincy for numerous seasons at the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), as well as representing India in the 2015 World Cup, the duo’s connection goes well beyond their on-field endeavors.
In an engaging conversation on ‘The Indian Cricket Podcast’, Mohit Sharma sheds light on his recent interaction with MS Dhoni. Mohit said, “Last week, I spoke with Mahi Bhai. We both love shoes. Whenever we talk, we discuss shoes. One of my friends works as a shoemaker. Mahi bhai sent me a photo of his boots and described the shape he desired for his formal shoes.”
Sharma remembered how, when he was younger, aspiring cricketers would do anything to obtain a chance to interact with legendary Indian cricketers. He believes MS Dhoni has a similar hold on the younger generation, which is why so many young people want to speak with him after IPL games.
“The way Mahi bhai’s aura has grown and what he has accomplished in cricket has become similar to how we felt about wanting to meet Paaji [Sachin Tendulkar] at least once. For the younger generation, Mahi bhai has become like that. You can see how players go to him after games just to talk to him about anything,” the pacer added.
MS Dhoni’s influence on the younger generation’s interest in cricket, particularly wicketkeeping, has been enormous.
